The rich history of this place left a memory of itself in the form of unique sightseeing. Medieval Bodrum Castle, Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archaeology, the Museum of Turkish baths, Mausoleum, and, of course, sea berths – this is an incomplete list of what to see in Bodrum. The Castle of St. Peter is the most famous landmark of Bodrum. The construction of it began in 1402 under the direction of German architect Heinrich Shlegenhold. The defensive structures consisted of five towers and occupied an area of about 30,000 square metres. The Castle of St. Peter had been holding back the invasion of the Turks for more than 100 years being the protection of the Christians in Asia Minor. In 1960 the Castle housed the Museum of Underwater Archaeology.  The Castle is also one of the ancient wonders of the world. The Construction of the mausoleum began during the life of King Mausolus in 353 BC. The Mausoleum occupied an area of 5,000 square meters. The height of the buildings was about 20 meters. The ancient monument was destroyed by the Crusaders, who used it as a source of building material in the construction of the Castle of St. Peter. None of the resorts in the country have such a bright individual look as Bodrum does. Everyone comes here to find something special.
